Each year on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving St John XXIII school age children and parents gather together to load up all of the donated food and deliver and sort them at Helping Hands of St Louis in Toledo. This is a fun, but fast paced service opportunity that does require a bit of patience, muscles, and responsibility. Best geared towards children in 3rd - 6th grade, but open to all that are interested in helping!
Wednesday, November 27th
We will meet at the church at 8:30 am to do some preliminary sorting and then loading. Preliminary sorting at the church, gives us a large, warm, safe space and hopefully helps to move the process along a little faster once we are there.
We will plan to leave around 9:00 am to drive to Helping Hands of St Louis. Once we arrive we will need to unload all of the vehicles, weigh the items, sort them and help stack the sorted boxes onto the shelves. Depending on the number of volunteers, this may take until 10:30 - 11:00.
